What do we believe? Beth
Messiah Congregation
believes and teaches
according to the following seven Articles of Faith. We believe the Bible (Old and New Covenants) is the
inspired, the only infallible, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three
Persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh). We believe in the deity of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah
(Jesus Christ), in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in
His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily
resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His
personal return in power and glory to establish His kingdom. We believe in the salvation of lost and sinful man by grace
through faith in Yeshua (Jesus). We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit (Ruach
HaKodesh), who indwells all believers and enables them to live godly lives. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the
lost; those who are saved unto the resurrection of eternal life, and those who
are lost unto the resurrection of eternal damnation. We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in the
Lord Yeshua, the Messiah. Who are we? Beth Messiah is a congregation made up of Jewish and Gentile
believers in Yeshua (Jesus to most Americans). Beth
Messiah is part of an ever growing movement of people who have come to believe
that Yeshua is the promised Messiah of Israel. Our worship is in a Jewish
context, and makes use of Jewish terminology and appropriate Jewish liturgy.
Some examples you will notice both in our services and on our Web site:
Jesus
is referred to as Yeshua (His Hebrew name). Rather
that referring to Yeshua as Christ, we refer to him as Maschiach, which is the
Hebrew word from which we get the English word Messiah (Both Maschiach in Hebrew
and Christos in Greek mean the same thing; "Anointed One")
If
you have the opportunity to attend services with us you will notice:
Some
of our music and liturgy is in Hebrew (with English translations provided, and
the Hebrew words written out in English letters so those who cannot read Hebrew
can follow along).
A
wooden cabinet at the front of the Sanctuary, called an We
do not pass an "offering plate" at Beth Messiah, using instead the
Jewish tradition of a tzedakah box. Beth
Messiah is by no means exclusively Jewish. We celebrate our relationship with God in a Jewish context, however we believe that the "Middle Wall of Partition" has been broken down, and in the Lord, both Jew and Gentile are one people. At Beth Messiah you will find Jewish and Gentile believers, who share a common love for God and each other. Why do we congregate? Beth Messiah was formed for the following three purposes: To propagate the
gospel of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah) to the Jew first, and also to
the non-Jew. (As discussed by Paul in his letter to the Romans, and as
demonstrated throughout his life in ministry.) To
foster the spiritual growth of the congregants and to provide opportunities for
fellowship among Messianic believers. To teach the Scriptural and historical foundations of faith in Yeshua, and to worship Him in context as the promised Jewish Messiah, incorporating supportive Jewish tradition, that we might identify with the Jewish people.
