As we move forward in our 50 day journey of Counting the Omer, we begin to focus on Shavuot. However, our Torah portion is about Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement!

The Shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is called Shabbat Shuvah, the Sabbath of Return. It takes place during the Ten Days of Awe when we are preparing for the Day of Atonement.

A recurring theme in the career of Moses as leader of Israel is his loyal love toward the Israelites. We read about his frustration and dissatisfaction, but also about his amazing intercession for the people.
