This week our Torah portion focuses on the story of the Golden Calf. To get the most out of this narrative, we must go back to Exodus 24 and read about the great covenantal ceremony when the whole nation spoke with one voice and promised to obey God.

We are one week away from Rosh Hashanah. It is the season of repentance and restoration. It’s a time when we evaluate our lives and our relationship with God.

This week’s Torah portion is the beginning of the end of the wilderness wanderings.  We read about the death of Miriam (Num. 20:1) and Aaron (Num. 20:28).  We also read the story of Moses’ action which prohibited him from entering the land (Num. 20:2–12).
